UFC 185 Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Joanna Jedrzejczyk will have the opportunity to pick up her third win in three trips to the UFC octagon when she faces Carla Esparza at UFC 185. But, more importantly, she also has the opportunity to become the women’s strawweight champion.
Jedrzejcyk (8-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) is a heavy-handed striker, known to throw punches quickly and in combination. Having to admit that Esparza has the clear edge in wrestling, it’s that striking advantage that likely will be needed to carry her to a victory over Esparza.
But is Esparza’s striking in the same league as her own? For Jedrzejczyk, the answer is simple.
“No, it’s not,” she told MMAjunkie Radio.
Not only does Jedrzejcyk believe she has the edge in striking, but the Polish star thinks she has achieved a psychological edge, as well, after a recent media day face-off in Los Angeles.
“She knows that it’s going to be a difficult fight for her, also for me,” Jedrzejcyk said. “She’s a champion, so it’s going to be a pretty tough fight. But I could see that she’s a little bit afraid. She could see that I’m not going to give up.”
Sporting an undefeated record, Jedrzejcyk has transitioned well to the UFC. Her promotional debut at UFC on FOX 12 also was her first fight outside of Europe.
